Greetings!
We hope you are enjoying these first days of summer. As summer begins, there certainly is a lot going on in the world of Catholic education, including a new principal and president at Cristo Rey School and a new president at Nativity Prep Academy. We expect to hear about the new principal at Cathedral Catholic High School very soon. We look forward to working with each of these new leaders as we continue to support Catholic education through your generosity.
And speaking of leadership, Father Joe’s Villages is leading the way in addressing San Diego’s housing challenges as it begins the process to build 176 affordable housing units at the former skydiving center in downtown San Diego. The building on Imperial Avenue will be run by Father Joe’s Villages, and the units would be right next to Father Joe’s East Village Campus. It will serve those experiencing homelessness that are ready for the next step of permanent, supportive housing. Father Joe’s Villages goal is to have a total of 2,000 affordable housing units across all its sites by 2025. They currently have just under 1,000. If you feel called to help make this goal a reality, please let us know. The power of our community foundation lies in our ability to combine many gifts for a big impact in areas fundamental to our faith.
Investments have continued to perform well as we move through 2024, continuing the strong returns earned in 2023. Both the Growth Pool and the Balanced Pool have outperformed their Policy Indexes since inception, and we are pleased with the results of the investment pools. You will find more detailed reports below. Mercer has been the longtime investment consultant for the Foundation and their guidance has been invaluable.
As you know, CCFSD recently began searching for our next executive director to lead us forward into the next chapter of the Foundation’s development. Our Board’s search committee has been very pleased to see the number and caliber of the individuals who have expressed interest in this important role. We hope to have someone selected and in-place later this summer. In the interim, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact either of us while we go through the process of hiring and onboarding a new leader for the Foundation.
With new leadership, new opportunities to make a difference avail themselves to us. If you are interested in discussing these emerging possibilities, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We stand at the ready to support you as you participate in all the good that is happening in San Diego through Catholic philanthropy.
Yours in Christ,
